Winx set to gallop on Saturday
1 year agoChampion mare Winx is set to hit the track this Saturday, a week out from her highly-anticipated return to racing.
With the four-time Cox Plate heroine slated to resume in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) on February 16, Winx will take part in a special exhibition gallop at Randwick.
With her autumn preparation likely to be her final campaign, Saturday is almost certain to be the final chance racing fans will get to see the great mare outside of race day.
A sausage sizzle breakfast will be available for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds to be directed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Winx's trainer, Chris Waller, said: "We would like to give Winx a race day experience before she resumes her Sydney Autumn Racing campaign, and the opportunity to put her on a float and take her to Royal Randwick will round off her preparation perfectly.
"It also gives us the chance to let the public see her close up and also on the track.
"I look forward to seeing many of her fans at Royal Randwick this Saturday, as well as during her racing campaign through the Sydney autumn."
Incredibly, Winx will be gunning for 30 wins on the bounce in the Apollo Stakes.
Winx's swansong is likely to be the G1 $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 13.
