TRC COUNTRY VICTORIA RACING WRAP4 weeks ago
Thought I’d do a bit of a Victorian country wrap. If you think it’s adding some value, please let TRC know and I’ll try to keep it up. The below runners were mentioned in my previews and below is a break down what we can expect from them going forward.
ROLL OUT THE MAT (standout performer)
FRONDEUR - Pakenham Jan 16– I didn’t preview this race but thought she was the standout performer from the provincial circuit, this girl looks up to stakes class. A nice jump out before a terrific turn of speed in this event. City class at least. Follow her in town next start, she is an exciting prospect. Imagine they go to The Vanity next start and she may well be up to them.
STICK FAT (forgive)
HE’S A BALTER – I had this bloke on top with $41 available after MBL, he missed the start on us the bugger, they did run it along and he got up on the fence, forced to ease of heels in the straight he looked as though he hit the front 50m out and has somehow missed a hole. Bleep me. We won’t get the same price on him now so that is a missed opportunity. Twas 2 minutes noodles in place of Uber eats for the family.
LESMURDIE- this bloke missed the kick and ran on well but it didn’t matter, NONCONFORMIST sat closer to the speed, had good manners, and went huge really. He looks up to mid-week grade and we can prob get a dollar out of LESMURDIE in a similar affair soon.
OUR VOLANTIS – I had this girl on top at good odds as I felt she was going particularly well at the jump outs. I had her mapped outside lead and Stackhouse decided to restrain from a wider gate, they went nearly 7.5 lengths below benchmark to the 600m which was effectively crawling, why he didn’t go forward is beyond me. FFS. She was held up a fraction and ran on well. She was effectively given none and I think from a better draw she can go close in a similar affair next time.
DRATINI – I had him on top here and was basically given none once out the back, the jock panicked and tried to sustain a very long run he was entitled to peak late. It was a complete forgive effort. Nb. He backed up on Friday at Mornington found the front and bolted in at big odds, I wasn’t clever enough to catch him there and that makes me sick. Bleep me.
STRAIGHT BAT (take the money and run)
SPEARS – I had this girl on top at double figures, they specked her late and she was the beneficiary of a very patient ride from Jess Eaton. I have to admit I hate when they go wide at this venue but put simply she was far too good for them in the new camp. Don’t think we go again here unless she finds a weakish 58 somewhere.
NUCLEAR CHEVAL - I had fella on top and he was a bit tardy away, thankfully he was aided by the inside draw and was able to hold a spot. The leader gave a kick but he got over the top late. Visually it was quite impressive however note the race didn’t rate that highly and in this instance happy to pocket the winnings and more than likely let him go around without me next time.
LETZBEGLAM – I Identified this girl from the jump outs, she was aided by the inside draw and able to hold them out before kicking off the bend and getting there easily despite being on the drift. Not a lot of options in this bush so imagine they try stakes grade and that may be beyond her. They truck loaded the Freedman trained MELISENDE, she was caught off the track and it was a forgive effort if you went that way, she can go close on a similar affair next start.
CLOSER TO A CAT (sack)
RINGFORT – thought this girl closed off well in a jump out prior but she was very plain behind a runaway winner here. She may be after further or simply may not be much chop. Unlikely to follow up on her based on this effort.
CHARLTON – I had this bloke on top when I thought he was a sound each way prospect at $20+. He is a tardy beginner and was able to plug his way into third to get some result on the race. I don’t think he’s much a follow me next start prospect.
RED MAESTRO- I had this guy on top to beat the odds on pop, he was dug up to lead and left a bit of a sitting shot late. What I will say is the this stable (Oliver) often have horses trial/jump out well which is reflected in the market, but they don’t seem to improve all the much in to race day. He probably has a maiden in him soon but not jumping out of the trees to back him.
THE DRILLER – Chief Whiskas is this dude. I fell into this Shetland pony yet again last week, he had the right run and gave in like a pricked balloon. Needs the paddock at the very least and probably needs North Queensland realistically. Never again.
SOMETHING ABOUT THAT (from the jump outs)
CAMPESE – Jumped out at Camperdown January 22 and has gone like a rocket. He will be very hard to beat in any maiden in the near future.
WINSUM- 2yo son of Wandjina jumped out at Cranbourne January 20, he had jumped out well last time in when unnamed (I’ve updated the jump out database if you want to watch them) and looks very sharp. He should be hard to beat fresh, hopefully they go bush before having a crack at the big smoke and we may be able to get a dollar out.
SIERRA SUE – also went around in that Cranbourne set on Jan 20, and went very well absolutely trotting in, overall time was good and while she didn’t scoot home by the clock it was easy work she looks to have a maiden in her soon.
BATTLECRUISER – Really like this horse, loved his debut at The valley behind Yes Yes Yes, his splits were outstanding there. I lost my little mate Crystal Beau in that race which gave me some flash backs when the screen came out for Manuel last night. Love these animals, RIP boys. He’s had a few issues so Mick is just taking his time with him but he’s ticking along well at Caulfield. Would love them to find a 1200m maiden on a big track fresh and give him a chance to work through his gears. If right he is stakes class.
