The Sydney Review Jan 23
1 month agoA thin day for horses to really stamp themselves as ones to follow, but certainly a few that put their names in headlights.
Top debut from STAY INSIDE and fantastic strength late given how badly the other on pacers capitulated. Has a way to go to reach the pure 2yo top liners, but can only be improved. HEADLINER great chase after held up badly. Very good for longer.
ART CADEAU put his name in lights for the Country Champs over 1400m. Back in trip off a little fresh and showed versatility to be ridden somewhat cold and let down strong. Once a non-winner, now a line chaser. WATER DOVE was outstanding at only start three riding a strong tempo. SHELBY SIXTY SIX good first up with concussion plates on first time interestingly. He ran the F L600m of the entire meet. Look for him with some give in the track, big follow is so. They ran similar time, but an inkling tells me this Hwy will stack up going forward more so than the next one.
THE FACE too good and controlled proceedings then kicked. Can win again same grade 11-1200m. OSAMU surely not a Mdn much longer! Top return for longer, can be followed.
ROCKETING BY got the tempo to suit and won like a good horse. RULE OF LAW arguably the run of the day. Rode a hot speed after never had a breather after he was trapped deep, then keen OSL, yet still stuck on superbly, with the leader finishing last. Gutsy effort and hopefully hasn’t cooked him early in the prep, because keen to follow.
SACRAMENTO well rated and too good. CALIFORNIA LONGBOW shut out key stage when sprint went on, desperate for 2400m now and has a great platform.
Lovely, patient ride on BANDERSNATCH and too good. THY KINGDOM COME excellent 2nd up, could be in for his best prep yet at a decent level. Gets 1600m, can follow.
CISCO BAY loomed, but peaked. Slow start very costly. ALL TIME LEGEND should have won. Bolting, no run, F L200m OTR once out. So many of these been up for a while, tough to find one to really stamp as one to follow.
