The Sydney Review 24/10

We started on a Soft 5 and the track deteriorated as the meet went on, getting to a Heavy8 by race 6. That makes disecting sectionals from early in the meet quite tough. The track played towards the front and on the rail for the most part. Difficult to make a stack of ground out wide. The kick back really became an issue from race 3 onwards and it looked like some horses weren't loving it, so further advantage to those up front.

TIGER MALAY was strong late, good win. CAMINO REAL ran the F L200m OTR and she's the one I'd want to follow up in trip drawing a gate. Not sold on overall race quality.

Nothing to see here, PROVEN CLASS too good. EVA'S DEEL made a long, sustained run from back and wide. Her barrier was costly. Similar trip with a gate worth a look.

THE BOPPER justified the hype and this was a strong win. Really took care of a couple with WILD RULER form and did so in style. ON THE LEAD got too far back, again. TOMMY GOLD had the run, but he was first up and this was good for longer. I'd want to follow 1 and 2 from this.

CUBA found the front, dictated and was too good. Bit of a head scratcher re ARCHEDEMUS. Had CUBA'S measure first up, but he went awful today with no excuses. CRIADERES has that race pattern that's going to make things tough as he moves up into better races, just gets too far back. He ran on strongly. Golden Eagle is on the cards, but pattern would be costly in that class. He's looking for 1600m. ROYAL CELEBRATION came back well. He usually takes a couple of runs to get going, so I'd suggest a good prep is incoming.

Dominant front running ride from Winona Costin on KNIGHTS ORDER and nice to see her get a win in town. Not a race you'd be keen to follow up on. RONDINELLA spanked 3rd, but needs it all to go right to win.

Timmy Clark took PELTZER to the front and he proved a class above. Dominant win from the front, ran out the mile and the rain coming certainly helped his cause.

Not many can win going 1600m back to 1200m, but that's what POSITIVE PEACE did. She sat OSL, used fitness to her advantage and won well. Forgive BLAZING MISS. Raced wide without cover on speed and rider dropped the whip at the 300m. Nothing went right. WANDABAA went huge! Clear R F L6/4/200m and just missed. She was held up crucial stage, came off heels and really let down hard. Good mare. Been in work a while now, but a little step up in trip she can be followed.

HILO got the dream run here. Never left the fence and his fitness edge proved key. I thought EDISON was outstanding, and arguably a little unlucky. He was outside HILO on straightening, but taken a number of lanes wider and covered more ground than the winner. He knuckled down hard late and he's my number 1 horse I want to follow out of this meet. Trials were good, won 2 in a row before his spell, he is a good horse. A fantastic return from THROUGH THE CRACKS for longer, too.

The sit/sprint nature of this race suited ICEBATH as she displayed a dazzling turn of foot in the wet. She has run the F L200m split of the entire meet, in the last race! Utterly dominant and well deserved. If she backs up in the Golden Eagle and gets a wet track, she's into calculations!
