The Sydney Review 19/12
2 months agoThe weather radar was a bit of a stitch up here. No rain on the radar, but rained all day. Track didn’t play slow by all means, times were a genuine Soft5, but those that appreciate some give were very much brought into play. Track favoured those closer to the inside lanes. Wide, sweeping runs were difficult to sustain.
No upper echelon 2yos here. In fact, I’d suggest these may even be below the 2nd rung. Winner PAULELE undefeated and did it in a different fashion today from the front. ZARASTRO was held up for clear running at the top of the straight, but wouldn’t have got the winner. Nice big strider, gets 1400m+.
RICH AND SHAMELESS first up off a neat trial and can go on with it at C3 Hwy level soon.
A big example of forgiving a good one here with ANOTHER ONE going straight to the front and winning with ease. Most definitely the best horse won. Future country champs prospect. Bunched finish in behind. CLAY PAN BOOGIE good fresh giving away fitness. KATTEGAT going well.
Gutsy boy GONE BYE. He got the race shape to suit and did the rest. Loves grinding up top on a genuine tempo. Can get beyond 2000m now. TREVELYAN is going okay of late at big SPs. PARRY SOUND peaked on the run off a freshen, can win back up in trip. ELABORATE okay. 2200m+ and a little weight relief for him in the grade.
NEW ARRANGEMENT - can’t write what I’d love to as it’s expletive laden. On the back up after not getting out last week, but back up in the weights I thought he’d missed the window. His stablemate set the pace, he tracked it and won with ease. FULMINA well backed but woeful. Showing she can mix form now and that is a habit that can become very frustrating from a punters perspective. Stable noted may have raced flat after big fresh run on a hot day.
Outstanding ride on SAIGON from Tommy Berry. Cut the corner, saved the ground, slid off heels effortlessly and the horse let rip. Great fresh performance and this is a very good looking animal, can really go on with it now. MAUI GIRL was okay 2nd up, firm ground 1600m 3rd up? SAUSEDGE ran on hard, but she does that well, every single start. You’d hate to back her every week. BRING THE RANSOM bled both nostrils and also cardiac arrhythmia - 3 months off now.
OUR BELLAGIO MISS got the give in the ground she needed and got a great run tracking the speed. Do yourself a favour and watch Rachel King change the whip from the left hand to right hand between the 200m-100m mark. Just an effortless thing of beauty. What an outstanding jockey she already is, but she just keeps getting better. Pattern against LASHES fresh. She’s a good horse, but may be short of that black type horse I thought she may become. Still has time, but BM races look the go at this stage.
Loveable horse EDISON. Puts himself on speed and loves a fight. Horses like him and by far and away the best betting prospects long term. HILO good enough runs spaced at 1400m. I’d say the winner has his measure at the trip.
The real BIG PARADE showed up and at his best, he was unbeatable. The gamble was just which one would show up! PANDANO looked uncomfortable chasing a good lead speed. 1400m for him 3rd up, come back well.
Sheesh, BLACK DUKE loomed up like he’d give them windburn. Think this was a good example of how the far outside raced that little bit inferior. Winner BLUFF ‘N’ BLUSTER burst through a gap inside. MORE PROPHETS 11-1400m 2nd up and peaked last 50m. Big follow staying at the trip.
