The Sultan's Randwick Review Feb 1

Racing at Randwick and again it played fair. Just a brilliant track over the past few months! Going to identify a few to follow out of the meet.

When it comes to the 2 year old races, clearly the boys outclassed the girls. PRAGUE ran quicker time and the jockey politely put it that he thought it was a better horse than AWAY GAME. Not sure it’s up there with the cream of the 2 year olds, but looks a nice type.

GREENSPAN was huge in the Hwy off a little freshen when travelling wide no cover throughout but putting them away with ease. The Nowra Country Champs clash looks to be strong, but he is flying and should be followed.

ALOT TO HOFFA raced tight in the straight and had to ease across heels. He was good late running a R F L200m and is a very lightly raced 6 year old, so still has plenty of upside. He can win up to the mile next start with good placement.

HTF ALOT TO HOFFA next start

Brilliant return from MONGOLIAN WOLF. He was eased across a pair of heels at the 300m and started to get through his gears nicely. He ran a clear R F L200, and his L50m was electric! He’s won out to 2400m so can certainly be followed up in trip. Good prep coming I’d say.

SUBPOENAED put in an excellent return. Small and weak field, but she’s got some class about her and I love her action. Clear R F L600m as you’d expect and she can be followed in the early Autumn - a period she’s been clearly aimed at.

COSTELLO stepped 1500-2000m 2nd up and should be peaking staying at this trip 3rd up. He loomed up to win but was shaded late but the one with the lightweight. Unfortunately, from all reports, he runs his race in the parade ring and is his own worst enemy. Keep an eye out for Doff’s report 3rd up as any sort of improvement in the yard would be a significant positive.

Brilliant return from Standout and what a beautiful looking horse. Interestingly, Standout, Alizee and Kolding all ran virtually identical L200m splits. For me, clearly the one to follow is KOLDING. He paraded with massive improvement to come, was ridden to box in Alizee but then matched motors with the sprinters late. He is a rolled gold superstar and I’d be expecting him to win a G1 at WFA over 1400/1600m this prep.

HTF KOLDING this prep

Follow the placement of LABURNUM 3rd up. She is in the unfortunate position that she has to lug weight at BM88 level, so finding the right race is key, but her 10th place finish can be overlooked. She sat outside a frantic tempo and left Embracer behind at the 250m. She’s desperate for 1400m now.
