The Melbourne Review Feb 13

Caulfield played pretty well although the rails didn't really look like the A-ground in my opinion.

THE BEST WINS

RACE 7 - PROBABEEL

Forget the hype - Probabeel proved here what true Group 1 quality is all about. I doubted her at 1200m, I doubted her with the 60kg G1 penalty off a tempo that looked likely to suit those on pace - and so did many others. This mare proved what a good horse looked like as she crushed this lot, runnng home in sme very slick closing splits comparatively on the card. She's in beast mode. Watch out All Star Mile.

HORSES TO FOLLOW

1. SILENT SOVEREIGN (Flemington Race 1)

Gee they went slowly in this race which was expected pre race, but there were a couple of very good runs from the back of the field. The winner Quantum Mechanic was one of them, but Silent Sovereign was another - she was cut off at the top of the straight when trying to push through to make her run, once she balanced up the race was over but she kept finding the line. She'll nearly win next start at 2000m.

2. BUFFALO RIVER (Flemington Race 3)

The Buff is back - he just needs some relief at the handicap now which will come when he steps up to stakes level. He was sitting right up on a genuine tempo here, saw off Morvada and kicked hard but a rock hard fit Regardsmaree just nabbed him on the line and was carrying 5kg's less. The weight beat him - stick with him!

3. SEPTEMBER RUN (Flemington Race 8)

Here's your 2021 Newmarket Handicap winner assuming even luck in that race. The filly was huge here - we were with her on top and at the 400m I'd be lying if I said I was confident, I was anything but...watch how she lengthens and chases though once balanced up, it was a super run and I am even more keen on her now heading to the Newmarket.

4. LAVERROD (Flemington Race 9)

l knew that Laverrod was on the job when he was still travelling and on the bit by the 250m with his jockey looking round for dangers - sadly the weight grabbed a hold of him when asked to quicken, he couldn't hold off rivals carrying 5.5kg and 3kg less in the run home. Laverrod will bob up in a Listed / Group 3 race at 1200m-1400m and win this prep in Melbourne, it's a case of identiying the right race.

5. LORENZETTI (Moonee Valley Race 6)

One from The Valley on Friday night that caught the eye was Lorenzetti - the market loved this bloke on race night and he was $7 - $5 with a steady stream of support, the tempo was against him but no horse finished better in the race and I'd be keeping a close eye on him in BM64 - BM70 level on the provincials as he steps out to 2000m and beyond, he's in for a good prep.

THE MARKET SAID...

FLYING EVELYN ( The Valley 1st R2, $6 - $2.80) was going to be a winning chance as soon as she snuck into the field because the market was fair dinkum frothing for her. In a messy race there were some nervous moments for her supporters but she eventually got the job done, nice little horse.
