THE MELBOURNE REVIEW | CAULFIELD July 25th

Track played very fairly and horses could win from anywhere with the right tempo.

Race 1

Story of the race was TAVIDANCE who was well supported all morning, while set a task by Kah he ducked in at a critical stage and was disappointing. The import SKYMAN the beneficiary from the early move of others, got the cart and let down to suggest he can win better races. DENERO was badly held up and should’ve finished much closer, ditto BATTLE TORQUE who gut shuffled back at a key stage and did well to get himself into the money.

Race 2

Not convinced this was a deep race. FLINDERS RIVER got a few big shoves early to hold a spot and that won him the race, he took the run when it presented and did well. Conversely GALACTIC FURY got shuffled back when it was muddling run, held u badly I thought he should have won and at the very least pushed his stablemate. The Price pair both ran on quite well. I don’t think any of these are ready for the transition to stakes grade which is likely to be what’s on the cards for Sat metro.

Race 3

There looked some speed on paper but SHE’S A THIEF showed good initiative and got away with a picnic which is why she was able to keep running. PROPELLE was restrained early and is going well, her racing style makes it tough for her. SWORD OF MERCY also ran home well but was given not much hope. Disappointing effort form OUR CAMPANA, she is much better than that.

Race 4

LORD BOUZERON ran this strongly and the idea was sound, make PERSAN feel every bit of his 62kg. PERSAN had the trail and travelled into it nicely but the 8kg swing to HIGH EMOCEAN was too much as the filly ate up the trip and truly run race, she still has some room to move. BOWNESS ran 4th and will probably go back to a maiden and start very short, I’ve been sucked in by her a few times so be wary taking the shorts if that’s where she goes.

Race 5

CHASSIS was able to settle closer to an average tempo and went right on from her nice fresh run with a good win. RICH HIPS flashed home again here and keeps running well. BEATRIX looked to be travelling nicely, I think the 1200m found her out but she was sound. FINESSE TESS wasn’t given much hope when the jock elected to sit wide, she can easily be forgiven.

Race 6

MORRISSY went forward today, a reverse of tactics from the start prior, stacked them up and bolted in. RUBAN BLEU relaxed nicely for his first go at the trip, he ran well just didn’t get the tempo he needed. RIVET DELIGHT hit the line quite nicely and can be competitive up to  a mile next time.

Race 7

VIRIDINE was able to hold a spot near enough to them, given a peach from Oliver he drove up the inside and was too good. GREAT AGAIN drove up on speed and was sound, incredibly honest horse. STREETS OF AVALON put in a great return given he is suited to further, clearly a happy horse. SHE SHAO FLY did work home well for an in-form camp.

Race 8

MAHAMADEIS had the bar plates but was simply better than these with a strong win. SASKO did a good job on a firmer surface, not usually his go. DOUBLE YOU TEE worked home well enough but wasn’t that exciting either.

Race 9

A real tactical affair and nothing phases MYSTERY SHOT and Rodd who just absorb what’s worth absorbing and then let down at the business end. That’s five on the bounce. Admirable steer from Oliver on WICKLOW TOWN who took off and made a real race of it. REGARDSMAREE worked home well and was far from disgraced.
