Racing Victoria issue charges against Weir, McLean and Kermond
1 year agoRacing Victoria (RV) stewards have issued charges against Australia’s leading trainer Darren Weir.
Under the Australian Rules of Racing (AR), RV has also issued charges against Jarrod McLean and foreman Tyson Kermond following police raids at Weir’s stables in both Ballarat and Warrnambool on Wednesday.
There are six charges against Weir, as per the RV statement:
- Three charges of Possession of an electric or electronic apparatus capable of affecting the performance of a horse
- Failure to give evidence at an inquiry
- Failure to comply with a direction of the stewards
- Conduct prejudicial to the image, interests or welfare of racing
The four charges against McLean are:
- Possession of an electric or electronic apparatus capable of affecting the performance of a horse
- Failure to give evidence at an inquiry
- Failure to comply with a direction of the stewards
- Conduct prejudicial to the image, interests or welfare of racing
While Kermond has been issued with two charges:
- Failure to give evidence at an inquiry
- Failure to comply with a direction of the stewards
The RV statement also read: “stewards have issued Show Cause Notices to Mr Weir and Mr McLean requesting them to show cause why the stewards ought not exercise their powers” for the following:
- to suspend their licence to train;
- to prevent any horse owned (or part-owned) or leased by them from participating in any race or official trial;
- to decline to receive any nomination or entry for a horse trained by them;
- in respect of the nominations or entries which have been received, to reject those nominations or entries,
“pending the hearing and determination of the charges issued against them.”
