Jumps jockey in induced coma

Jumps jockey Braidon small is in an induced coma following a fall at Pakenham on Sunday.

According to Victorian Jockeys' Association chief executive Matt Hyland, Small told medical staff that his knee was sore, but that he felt OK after falling from Startierra in Race 2 - a 3200-metre hurdle.

The 27-year-old was driven home by his partner after being cleared to leave the track, but was later admitted to hospital after waking at home with a headache.

Hyland said Small was put into an induced coma and flown to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, after scans showed some bleeding to the brain.

Small won the Galleywood Hurdle aboard Two Hats at last year's Warrnambool May carnival.
