DOOMBEN REVIEW – 9th MAY

Author: Luke Bevilacqua.

Race 1 – Bit of a common race this was. Anything that wasn't on the inside struggled. Wary of this form going forward.

Race 2 – Just a pass mark here for Watch The Cat. I thought he could have went a little closer to winning but the winner just got a better run then him with Temujins Rule not taking S Cormack anywhere at the business end. He is well seasoned now and perhaps after seeing that he will be better suited to a mile/1800m max. Champagne Vega made a long run from back and wide. Huge run. Just needs to find the right setup at Eagle Farm if we ever get back there. Perhaps 1800m for him also with more tempo.

Race 3 – This wasn't the strongest race I feel. The winner for mine isn't a 1200m horse but she found the right race. Happy to follow Trail Of Glory and Shamurt in the right grade. Perhaps both back to midweek.

Race 4 – The boys here same grade and it was a stronger race. Really couldn't understand the backing for Trevello here. Much like Hollaback Girl he had previously shown himself to be a 1000m type which seemed to be the theme here and R3. The Wild One, The Sinner and Patches all in that boat also for mine. Depth's below had to win with the run he had. Happy to follow The Wild One. Worked his way to the lead and gave a great kick. May benefit from a set of shades with a drop in distance. The Sinner was good here and think we can also follow him back in distance off a freshen. Moscini I believe would have won the race if you swap it's run from the barrier with Depth's Below's.

Race 5 – One act affair. Silly to leave the winner out here on my behalf. He is flying and put to bed any Doomben concerns backing up his good run here behind Shalwa & Profit which for mine is some of the best form going around in Brissy currently. At least we can confirm he is a different horse without blinkers. Enterprise Prince turned it up and is sacked until he comes back with blinkers off and 2 stone lighter.

Race 6 – Merit here to the whole Trifecta. Dusty Tycoon pressed on and worked to the lead from wide and gave a big kick. She's ready to win now with a softer run. Goldsborough was forced to take the sit and didn't shirk the task in the straight. Despite getting a great run it was still a credible effort in the company for a maidener in his 2nd start. Gotta Kiss Jumped very well and could have sat a pair closer with a lower draw/less going on underneath her. No help into the race from Zingalong which was expected in the run but she was super strong late and she is ready for 1200m now. Solid merit in Plutocrat's run behind them. Jumped well, restrained to last and finished off admirably considering the circumstances.

Race 7 – Slow tempo here with Supergiant the only speed on paper. Vanna Girl is a quality up and coming filly in QLD. She was in the best position to run down the leader and she got the job done. Eveything pretty much finished how you would have expected them to under the circumstances. If I was to single something out maybe Cellarmaid is ready now to win a race back in grade.

Race 8 – Still trying to figure out how Tambo's Mate beat Deep Image here. It wasn't a great tempo but Deep Image had a better run put a good head on Tambo and got beat a head. The horses to follow here for mine are Vega One and Tyzone. Vega One is flying. Just needs to have something in his favour next start to be winning. Tyzone was much improved here and can be competitive next start.

Race 9 – Cogliere almost got us a decent result here @$6 the drum. Just wilted late 2nd up and he is ready to win now. Ecker Road led and went very keen. Stuck on well and I think back to 1300m-1400m in similar grade can go close. Magstock was a good run from back and wide after being restrained. Showed a nice turn of foot before knocking up. Can figure in a finish soon with conditions to suit.
