Brother to Lankan Rupee to debut today

A brother to five-time Group 1 winner and 2013/14 Australian Horse of the Year, Lankan Rupee, will make his long-awaited debut at Gosford this afternoon.

Now four, the Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott-trained Regal Stage (Redoute's Choice x Estelle Collection) will carry top weight (58kg) in the 1200-metre Maiden (Race 7).

Regal Stage was knocked down for $1.8 million at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in 2016.

Co-trainer Bott told SEN.com.au the entire isn't as sharp as his star sibling.

"He doesn't possess the same speed as his older brother; he'll probably get over more ground later, maybe a mile," Bott said.

"We're hoping class gets him over the line.

"He's had a couple of nice trials leading into his debut and he's ready to go to the races."

Bott said Regal Stage hasn't been to the races as yet because of injury and illness.

Tim Clark will ride Regal Stage, which will likely starts odds-on.

Lankan Rupee won 11 of his 29 starts for $4.1 million in earnings before being retired during the spring of 2017.
