Australian Bloodstock to stick by Weir

Australian Bloodstock, which is one of Darren Weir's biggest clients, has thrown its support behind the embattled trainer, insisting their relationship has been nothing but positive.

Weir - who was on Wednesday arrested without charge after police raided his Ballarat and Warrnambool stables and seized an unregistered firearm, plus several jiggers and a small amount of what is believed to be cocain - trains 40-odd horses for Australian Bloodstock.

Weir and Australian Bloodstock have triumphed together at the elite level, with Brave Smash taking out last year's Manikato Stakes and Futurity Stakes, while Tosen Stardom was victorious in the Emirates Stakes and Toorak Handicap of 2017.

Speaking on SEN Afternoons, Australian Bloodstock director Jamie Lovett, said: "We've got a good rapport with Weiry and his staff; we've been very fortunate that we've had quite a bit of luck with Darren and his team.

"Some of the horses when they travel interstate… we're in Newcastle and the horses are stabled nearby, so I'm very fortunate that I get to watch these horses most mornings… I know how well they're looked after.

"From a welfare perspective, they couldn’t be in better hands."

Lovett suggested Weir, who has 36 Group 1s to his name and last season posted a commonwealth record 491 wins, may potentially be a victim of his own success.

"Unfortunately, it's quite Australian… when the guy's had a lot of success of late, the rumours and the rest come through," he said.

Lovett said that until told differently, it's business as usual.

"From a business perspective, we've still got horses that need to be worked… we've got a big autumn carnival just around the corner," Lovett explained.
