AFL Round 6

Wednesday 21st April, 2021

By Top Rankine

A few injuries last week proved costly, but that’s life. Keen to focus more on the same game combinations this week as I think there’s some nice value around. Keeping it all very simple here and aiming to hit at least one combination each game. Fingers crossed for an injury-free weekend!

Round 6 Cross Game Multis (11 Unit Strategy)

Multi #1 (4 units @ $4.49)

o   Tom Stewart 20+ @ 1.17

o   Ed Langdon 20+ @ 1.36

o   Jack Ziebell 20+ @ 1.50

o   Rory Laird 25+ @ 1.30

o   Dougal Howard 15+ @ 1.45

Multi 2 (4 units @ $8.45 TAB)

o   Ben Ainsworth 1+ @ 2.00

o   Charlie Cameron 2+ @ 2.40

o   Scott Pendlebury 25+ @ 1.67

Multi #3 (3 units @ $6.78)

o   Taylor Duryea 15+ @ 1.45

o   Ben Ainsworth 1+ @ 2.00

o   Ed Langdon 20+ @ 1.36

o   Tom Phillips 20+ @ 1.72

GWS v Western Bulldogs (5 Unit Strategy)

One of the more modern rivalries in football should make for a real interesting game to watch. Bulldogs are on fire and GWS showed some fantastic fight last round. As such, I like the Bulldogs between 1-39. Half backs love racking up stats so Duryea and Cumming provide some value respectively and I’m happy to back Ian Hill to kick straight this round, at least once!

Same Game Multi #1 (2.5 units @ $4.33)

o   Western Bulldogs 1-39 @ 2.00

o   Taylor Duryea 15+ @ 1.45

o   Isaac Cumming 20+ @ 1.45

Same Game Multi #2 (2.5 units @ $4.33)

o   Taylor Duryea 15+ @ 1.45

o   Jake Riccardi 1+ @ 1.33

o   Ian Hill 1+ @ 2.00

BEST BET:

o   Taylor Duryea 15+ @ 1.45

Geelong v West Coast (5 Unit Strategy)

I just don’t know if Geelong is going to be any good this year. Nothing they’ve done so far this season has impressed me, so I’ll take the Eagles at the line, even though it’s a tricky trip. With a bit of luck Liam Ryan is fit and ready to go this round, so happy to back him in again.

Same Game Multi #1 (3 units @ $3.40)

o   Josh Rotham 15+ @ 1.33

o   Tom Stewart 20+ @ 1.20

o   Mitch Duncan 25+ @ 1.45

o   Jake Waterman 1+ @ 1.40

Same Game Multi #2 (2 units @ $6.00)

o   West Coast +11.5 @ 1.90

o   Tom Stewart 20+ @ 1.20

o   Jake Waterman 2+ @ 3.10

BEST BET:

o   Mitch Duncan 25+ @ 1.45

Gold Coast v Sydney (5 Unit Strategy)

Two multis on this game. The first one feels conservative and a real possibility, the second one is slightly more speculative. If Sydney play well, I’d expect them to have Blakey playing high and getting up the ground providing him a chance to collect the pill a few times. Ben Ainsworth has been playing as a small forward and is a classy player, so he’s well over the odds at even money to kick a goal. He’s my best bet of the round at that value.

Same Game Multi #1 (3 units @ $4.40 TAB)

o   Izak Rankine 1+ @ 1.33

o   Ben Ainsworth 1+ @ 2.00

o   Jake Lloyd 25+ @ 1.40

Same Game Multi #2 (2 units @ $5.75)

o   Sydney 1-39 @ 2.20

o   Nick Blakey 15+ @ 2.63

BEST BET:

o   Ben Ainsworth 1+ @ 2.00

Carlton v Brisbane (5 Unit Strategy)

This seems like an obvious Brisbane win to me, however I’m very mindful of the fact that Brisbane is coming off a game played under water and so often it seems to impact a side the next week. With that in mind, I’m happy to still back Brisbane in, but feel somewhat confident they won’t blow Carlton away if they win. Charlie Cameron is due some goals, so why not here?

Same Game Multi #1 (3 units @ $3.60)

o   Brisbane 1-39 @ 2.25

o   Sam Docherty 20+ @ 1.14

o   Sam Walsh 25+ @ 1.30

Same Game Multi #2 (1 unit @ $10.25)

o   Brisbane 1-39 @ 2.25

o   Zac Williams 20+ @ 1.50

o   Sam Walsh 25+ @ 1.30

o   Charlie Cameron 2+ @ 2.40

Same Game Multi #3 (1 unit @ $12.00)

o   Zac Williams 20+ @ 1.50

o   Sam Docherty 25+ @ 1.72

o   Hugh McCluggage 25+ @ 1.83

o   Charlie Cameron 2+ @ 2.40

BEST BET:

o   Charlie Cameron 2+ @ 2.40

Melbourne v Richmond (5 Unit Strategy)

Do you think Melbourne are good enough to be 5-0? I’m not so sure, so I’ll back Richmond in here. Ed Langdon is a quality wingman and even though he’s fairly short in the markets, he still represents great value for mine.

Same Game Multi #1 (3 units @ $4.33)

o   Richmond 1-39 @ 2.30

o   Ed Langdon 20+ @ 1.36

o   Jack Viney 20+ @ 1.40

Same Game Multi #2 (2 units @ $6.00)

o   Dustin Martin 1+ @ 1.50

o   Trent Rivers 15+ @ 1.40

o   Ed Langdon 20+ @ 1.36

o   Jack Viney 20+ @ 1.40

o   Clayton Oliver 30+ @ 1.53

BEST BET:

o   Ed Langdon 20+ @ 1.36

Fremantle v North Melbourne (2 Unit Strategy)

Don’t like the markets in this game at all. Happy to take a punt of a couple of roughies in a multi here though. Taberner should see plenty of action in the forward line and whilst Josh Treacy has yet to kick an AFL goal, there will be opportunities here for sure. I’m also adamant Ziebell counts his stats during a game, so watch for him to try and take every kick in possible!

Same Game Multi #1 (2 units @ $9.25)

o   Matthew Taberner 15+ @ 2.37

o   Jack Ziebell 25+ @ 1.50

o   Josh Treacy 2+ @ 2.63

BEST BET:

o   Jack Ziebell 25+ @ 1.50

Hawthorn v Adelaide (5 Unit Strategy)

An interesting game here! I’m siding with Hawthorn and there the value for the multis below. I think Tom Phillips bounces back and finds plenty of ball here and I’ll happily package up a few major ball winners with these legs to hopefully find a winner or two!

Same Game Multi #1 (2.5 units @ $4.50)

o   Hawthorn win @ 1.66

o   Tom Phillips 20+ @ 1.72

o   Rory Laird 25+ @ 1.30

o   Tom Mitchell 30+ @ 1.30

Same Game Multi #2 (2.5 units @ $6.75)

o   Hawthorn 1-39 @ 2.25

o   Tom Phillips 20+ @ 1.72

o   Jaeger O’Meara 25+ @ 1.45

o   Rory Laird 25+ @ 1.30

BEST BET:

o   Tom Phillips 20+ @ 1.72

Collingwood v Essendon (3 Unit Strategy)

Another game that didn’t seem to have great value, so keeping it real simple with three midfielders all getting 25+.

Same Game Multi #1 (3 units @ $4.33)

o   Steele Sidebottom 25+ @ 1.62

o   Scott Pendlebury 25+ @ 1.67

o   Darcy Parish 25+ @ 1.57

BEST BET:

o   Scott Pendlebury 25+ @ 1.67

Port Adelaide v St Kilda (4 Unit Strategy)

Port get an opportunity to punish what has been arguably the most disappointing AFL side this year in St Kilda. It’s hard to believe St Kilda actually went to Adelaide and beat Port last year. Dougal Howard loves to do a Jack Ziebell and boost his stats through kick ins and Port will probably provide plenty of opportunities for him to do so here. Connor Rozee looks like a tricky match up with Paton and Geary both injured, so look for him to be dangerous around goal.

Same Game Multi #1 (2.5 units @ $5.00)

o   Aliir Aliir 15+ @ 1.57

o   Dougal Howard 15+ @ 1.45

o   Connor Rozee 1+ @ 1.45

o   Dan Butler 1+ @ 1.40

Same Game Multi #2 (1.5 units @ $8.50)

o   Dougal Howard 15+ @ 1.45

o   Jack Lonie 1+ @ 1.67

o   Connor Rozee 2+ @ 3.30

BEST BET:

o   Dougal Howard 15+ @ 1.45
