Galaxy Star gets her revenge in Belmont Group 3

Talented mare Galaxy Star has turned the tables on Gatting to win the Group 3 Strickland Stakes at Belmont.

Following her win in the Listed Belmont Sprint on June 1, Galaxy Star was turned over by Gatting in the Group 3 Hyperion Stakes a fortnight later.

Trained by Grant and Alana Williams, Galaxy Star required all of William Pike's vigour to reel in Gatting in the shadows of the post.

"Yeah it was unbelievable. She looked like she couldn't get there, she looked like she was ready for the breeding barn and somehow she just finds a way," Grant Williams told The Races WA.

Williams said the six-year-old Redoute's Choice mare, which was bred by and is raced by Bob Peters, has likely run her final race.

"She's got nothing left to do, she's a Group 1 winner, she's gone out winning a Group 3 race."

Straight after Galaxy Star's win, Fremantle Dockers veteran Hayden Ballantyne registered his first Saturday win as a trainer when Mankind took out Race 5.

The gelding's owners include Ballantyne's Fremantle teammates Alex Pearce, Brandon Matera and Joel Hamling.
