Jockey suspended for betting on races
8 months agoQueensland jockey Luke Tarrant has been handed a one-month ban after being found guilty of placing bets on thoroughbred races earlier this year.
Three bets totalling $55 were placed on international races under a Ladbrokes account in Tarrant's name.
Tarrant pleaded not guilty, arguing that the account was fraudulently set up under his name and the bets placed without his knowledge.
Stewards, however, were satisfied that there was sufficient personal information provided to Ladbrokes, and therefore on the balance of probabilities, Tarrant was the holder of the account and responsible for the bets in question.
Tarrant's suspension commences at midnight on June 30 and expires at midnight on July 30.
