In-form filly Fidelia is "flying": Griffiths3 weeks ago
Leading trainer Robbie Griffiths heads to Flemington today with three runners, including in-form filly Fidelia.
The three-year-old will be chasing her fourth win on the bounce when she lines up in the Race 2 over 1600m.
Griffiths told SEN's The Odds Couple that Fidelia will again take a power of beating.
"She's been absolutely flying and doing everything right, admittedly it's been against her own sex, running against the girls, so this is a challenge today; she's got plenty of weight (58kg) against the boys and some of them are racing really well.
"If ever there was a right time to take them on, while she's in form and running as well as she is, it's the right time to do it."
Griffiths said he's not concerned with the seven-day back-up, and revealed this will be Fidelia's final start this preparation.
Fidelia will be set for a four-start spring campaign that kicks off with the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 31 and concludes with the G1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on November 2.
"If we're fortunate enough to win again today, it would certainly still give us time to have a rest, and a couple of more (ratings) points would probably make it an easier transition t the set weights and penalties races in the spring," said Griffiths.
Fidelia will be ridden by Jye McNeil and jump from barrier eight.
Griffiths also has Feign running in Race 1 and Robe De Fete in Race 9. He said Fidelia is clearly his best chance.
