The weather was fine but rail was out and wind was up, that advantaged those on pace in the shorter distance races.

Race 1 T'bred Club Merson Cooper Stks 1000m

I think this will be a strong reference for the 2YOs going forward. EBHAAR has some real quality, Olly went forward and just left enough in the locker to fight back against BOLDINHO who hit the front. Both excellent. KUMICHO ran on well against what was the eventual pattern of the day, she had jumped out well prior so I certainly don't think it was a fluke. I think all three have something worth sticking with.

Race 3 Tobin Bros. Twilight Glow Stks 1400m

LADY OF HONOUR was able to go forward and control this race whereas DECENT RAINE had to take her medicine from the gate and ultimately that cost her the race. A very even bunch the spring 3YOs, not getting carried away with them with an eye to the Autumn.

Race 4 Premier Signs Doveton Stakes 1000m

This was a strong rendition of the Doveton Stakes. ENTHAAR clicked into gear and certainly recaptured some of her early career form when many, including me, were questioning how she was going. A real quality 1000m galloper. CURRAN was well supported and ran on very well, here. He couldn't hold a spot early but really motored to the line. Suspect the 1200m run took the edge of him and he can be followed to 1100m. YULONG COMMAND ran a bold race from the front, has found his mark here but he's going to win more races with that style.

Race 6 Neds Sandown Guineas 1600m

This race wasn't run all that quickly and then ramped up once the wind was at their back down the side. BLUE ARMY graduated from a pretty ordinary maiden to taking out a Group 2 with a nice stalking ride. While I think he's got upside, I don't think it says much for the depth of the spring 3YO group. Several others ran well but not getting carried away with this race with an eye to the Autumn.

Race 7 Herald Sun Zipping Classic 2400m

SPANISH MISSION went plain awful here but he's much better than that, little solace for those that piled into the shorts. SKELM the one to follow from this given his rating will allow him to contest much easier races. There's a 2600m BM100 in three weeks at Flemington, he will be right in a race like that.

Race 9 Quayclean Kevin Heffernan Stks 1400m

SINAWANN got the tongue tie and made a lie of his first up run with a superb win here. He's looks a G1 horse in waiting for the Autumn, look out. I AM SUPERMAN looked the winner on the bend, ran very well, just bumped into one who jumped out of the ground. CAMBOURNE was further back than I expected and ran very well given the day's pattern, all three can be followed in the right races.
